Endodontic’s Enthusiasts Meeting Pulp Fiction 10
4th – 7th of December 2008 r.
The meeting was opened by Dr Jerzy Zbożeń, who said “Look how the time flies.. It is the tenth time we meet and it is obliging. The idea behind the first Pulp Fiction meeting, that I’ve organized years ago, was the same as today. Although, obviously the character and the topics keep changing according to the development of science and technology. The constant value in our meetings is the exchange of professional experience from everyday practice.”
We reminisced the beginings and the unusual atmoshpere of those meetings. The jubilee took place on 4th – 7th of December 2008 in Warszawianka Conference Centre in Jachranka near Warsaw. The programme included lectures by well known and appreciated specialists in the field of endodontics and implant treatment. Among the lecturers were: Konstantinos Valavanis, Spyros Botos, Artur Borecki, Michał Jóźwiak, Jorge Vera, Elisabetta Cotti, Marga Ree, Gianluca Gambarini, Gilberto Debelian i Sam Kratchman.
First day was enriched with workshops concerning 3D diagnostics and microscope use in endodontic treatment conducted by Dr. Jerzy Zbożeń, Tomasz Zbożeń and Taras Horodetsky.

Prof. Elisabetta Cotti
She graduated dentistry in 1985. at the University of Cagliari, Italy. In 1990 she got a specialization in endodontics at Loma Linda University in USA, where she was working as a professor, and in 1991 she got a title Master of Science In Endodontics. In 1991-1994 she was a lecturer at the Department of Conservative Dentistry, University of Cagliari. Since 1999. she was a researcher at the University of Cagliari. Since 2000 she was a Professor at the Department of Conservative Dentistry, University of Cagliari. Professor Cotti is a lecturer of international renown. She is an author of numerous American, Italian and international scientific publications.
Prof. Gilberto Debelian
Dr. Debelian received his DMD degree from the University of Săo Paulo, Brazil, in 1987. He completed his specialisation in Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, in 1991. He completed his PhD studies at the University of Oslo in 1997. He is an adjunct visiting professor in the postgraduate programmes in Endodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Debelian maintains a private specialist endodontics practice in Bekkestua, Norway.
Prof. Gianluca Gambarini
Doctor Gianluca Gambarini is a professor of endodontics and restorative dentistry at Sapienza University Hospital in Rome, Italy. He is also involved with international exchange programs for dental students and professors and is Vice Dean of the Dental Hygiene School at Sapienza. He is often invited as a key-speaker on international congresses.
Dr Michał Jóźwiak
Dr. Jóźwiak graduated from The Medical University of Gdańsk, where he finished his specialty training in dental surgery. Since 1987 he has run his own private practice in Iława. He has authored many articles in the field of endodontics and dental surgery. He is one of the creators of endodontic website www.endodoncja.pl. He also runs discussion list for dentists (www.stomatolog.com.pl).
Prof. Syngcuk Kim
He earned his dental degree and certificate in Endodontics from the School of Dental and Oral Surgery at Columbia University in New York. Dr. Kim also received his Ph.D. degree in circulatory physiology from the Department of Physiology at the Medical School, Columbia University. In 2002 he received an Honorary Medical Doctor degree from the University of Graz, Austria
Prof. Sam Kratchman
Prof. Sam Kratchman was born and raised in New York. He received a B.S. in Biology and a D.M.D. both from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Sam then entered the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a certificate of endodontics, and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Endodontics and the Assistant Director of Graduate Endodontics, in charge of the microsurgical portion of the program. Prof. Kratchman has authored several articles and chapters on endodontics and intentional replantation for the Microsurgery in Endodontics textbook, and the Dental Clinics of North America. He also developed a patented instrument called the S Kondenser for the obturation of root canals. Both Main Line Today and Doctor of Dentistry magazines honored Dr Kratchman as the cover story for their "Best of " issues. Prof. Kratchman lectures on several topics of endodontics throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, South America, and Asia. He also maintains two private practices, limited to endodontics, in Exton and West Chester Pennsylvania.
Prof. Marga Ree
Marga Ree, from the Netherlands. Marga Ree obtained her degree in dentistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1979. For the next five years she was a part-time staff member of the department of Cardiology Endodontology Pedodontology, as well as being a clinical instructor in the central dental clinic of the University of Amsterdam. In 2001, She completed a postgraduate training programme in endodontics with a Master of Science degree. Since that time she has lectured widely and taught hands-on courses throughout the Netherlands and abroad. She is the primary author of several articles published in National and International journals and has contributed to several books on endodontics and general dentistry. Since 1980 she has had a private practice in Purmerend, which for the past nine years has been dedicated to endodontics.
Dr Konstantinos Valavanis
Dr. Valavanis attended the Kapodistrian University of Athens Dental School in Greece, where he received his degree in dentistry in 2000. After graduating he was trained in implant dentistry in Kraichtal Germany and Goldman School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA.
Dr n. med. Jorge Vera
Dr. Jorge Vera received his DDS degree in 1989 from National Autonomous University of Mexico (Spanish: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). In 1993 he received a Certificate in Endodontics from TUFTS University. He is the chairman of the Mexican Association of Endodontists, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board Member for the Journal of Endodontics.He has delivered more than 150 lectures and courses In Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Salvador, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Australia, Holland and Italy. Cr Vera has authored 40 papers in Mexican and international journals.
Dr Jerzy Zbożeń
Dr. Jerzy Zbożeń graduated from the Medical University of Silesia in 1980. Few years later he obtained a specialization in Oral Surgery. Interests: endodontics, microsurgery, implantology. Dr Zbozen runs his own multi-seat dental and surgical practice in Kielce. In 1993 he founded Profident (www.profident.pl), a company which specialises in implementing new technological solutions in the fields of endodontics, microsurgery and implantogy on the Polsih market. Dr Zbozen is the administrator and co-author of a specialised internet portal for Endodontists www.endodoncja.pl.
Lek. stom. Tomasz Jerzy Zbożeń
Lek. stom. Tomasz Zbożeń Has graduated from Medical University of Silesia in 2005 r. He Works alongside his father in a dental practice In Kielce. He runs workshops in Endodontics practical implementation of 3D Digital Implantology. Member of the Polish Endodontic Society, member of the American Endodontic Society (AAE). He undertook doctoral studies at the Faculty of Postgraduate Education at the Medical University of Lodz. He enrolled in the Endodontics Department of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in Philadelphia.
